Feral Sphere is a not-for-profit venture, supporting smallholding farms and mini-mills in the East Midlands.
Fleeces are selected based on location and quality, and spun in very small batches at a time.
Each batch is completely unique and could never be repeated!
All money made goes back into producing different yarns.
This yarn is produced from the fleeces of alpacas and Gotland sheep, farmed in Nottinghamshire and Lancashire respectively, which are then spun at a mill in Lincolnshire. Only the alpaca fleece is dyed, which is then mixed with undyed Gotland to produce a delicate marl effect.
The yarn is spun to 4ply, but acts more like a fluffy lace weight - a lovely soft thread, with a halo of soft fibres. It is hand-wound into skeins using a niddy noddy. Even though it is mill-spun, it is not commercial yarn, and if you’re lucky you may find subtle thick-and-thin aspects to the yarn, as well as the odd sprig of moss!
We have only one or two skeins of this lovely yarn left in each colour, and it is now discounted to clear. When it's gone, it really is gone :(
