Launched by Isobel Davies in 2007, the Izzy Lane brand aims to give animals a voice in the fashion industry. As a vegetarian, Isobel wanted wool from sheep that would not be killed; wool that was not a by-product of the meat industry. Unable at the time to find slaughter-free flocks, she acquired her own by rescuing sheep destined for the abbatoir. Now, the sheep of the Izzy Lane flock will live out their natural lives in peace in the Yorkshire Dales.

This yarn is a new venture for Izzy Lane, with the processing being funded through Kickstarter last year. The sheep were sheared in July, and then the wool was scoured, carded, spun, relaxed and wound in to balls at mills in West Yorkshire. And now it's ready! The sheep are predominantly Shetlands and Wensleydales, but there are also breeds whose wool is not of the quality that can be used in the yarn or clothing. So, the sale of the yarn also goes towards the care of these animals as well as the very elderly sheep (which are not sheared).
